Vitiligo

Vitiligo occurs when pigment-producing cells within the body stop functioning, creating patches of skin without color.  Vitiligo can affect any part of the body, including the mouth, hair, and eyes, and is more noticeable in people with darker skin.

Vitiligo does not pose a serious threat to your health but can increase the risk of sunburn or skin cancer and affect your mental health.  Treatments are available to improve the color and appearance of the skin but will not cure the disease. Our provider at Utah Valley Dermatology can help you look at treatment options and treatment schedules for skin checks to monitor your skin health.
