Also known as varicose veins, spider veins are something that can curse many women. Spider veins are the clusters of veins in red, blue, or purple that form on the thighs, calves, and ankles of women. These are a function of heredity, pregnancy, hormonal changes, weight gain, and career choices. These spider veins can be embarrassing and cause women to hide their otherwise perfect legs. Spider veins are not just something that happen to older women, they can appear at any age. When they show up early, women may seek ways to reduce the appearance of spider veins. This can be done easily and completely with cosmetic dermatology treatments at Utah Valley Dermatology.

Spider Vein FAQs
- Do I need Spider Vein Cosmetic Surgery?
Spider vein cosmetic surgery may be for you if you are bothered by the way your legs look, have a positive outlook about the outcome of your surgery and follow the prescribed treatment method from Dr. Myers. We work closely with all of our patients so they understand the entire spider vein treatment process.
A cosmetic treatment removes the spider veins to reveal younger, healthier-looking legs. In 2011 alone, more than 230,000 spider vein removals were performed in the United States.
- How to remove Spider veins?
Dr. Myers will remove spider veins through one of two methods. The first is laser light therapy whereby the dermatological surgeon will administer a large dosage of light energy to the veins that require attention and the blood will clot. When the blood coagulates, it constricts and shuts down the vein. This can remove spider veins in just one or two treatments.
A second method is injection sclerotherapy. This method involves the injection of a solution that will minimize the appearance of the veins. This procedure can require up to forty treatments. Though it sounds painful, it is quite painless and easy.
- Are there any side effects?
The effects of cosmetic dermatology for removing spider veins are permanent once the veins are gone. It allows women to get better-looking legs painlessly and easily. There are very few side effects if any, and fairly affordable considering other alternatives for treating spider veins.
Be sure to have a realistic discussion with your cosmetic surgeon about what you are wanting from the treatment to ensure that you both understand what you are looking for. Once the procedure is done, you will be able to have the legs you have always wanted. They will be clear, healthy, and younger-looking legs that you have been hiding for too long.
